We build the internal systems businesses run on.

Platform architecture, systems integration and backend engineering for companies in the UK and beyond. Multi-tenant applications, APIs and middleware in NestJS, Next.js, TypeScript and PostgreSQL. Tiebeam also publishes its own subscription software.

Work
  1. Platform architecture

Technical design for systems expected to run for years: service boundaries, data models, multi-tenancy, integration points. The engagement produces a written architecture and the reasoning behind it — what was chosen, what was rejected, where the system is expected to change. Your team builds from the document.

  2. Systems integration

Joining systems that were never designed to work together — internal platforms, third-party APIs, databases you cannot replace. Middleware and API design with the failure cases handled explicitly: retries, ordering, reconciliation. You receive working integrations, documented contracts, and an account of what happens when the other side stops answering.

  3. Product engineering

Full-stack development across web, iOS and Android, from database and API through to interface, in NestJS, Next.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL and Prisma. For teams building something new, or for an existing codebase that needs architecture review before the next round of work.

Engagement
  1. How work starts

Engagements begin with one of four things: separate business systems that need connecting, a platform that off-the-shelf software cannot provide, an architectural problem in a system already running, or a product to build for web, iOS and Android.

  2. What is left behind

Each engagement leaves something written. For architecture, the design and the reasoning behind it: what was chosen, what was rejected, where the system is expected to change. For integrations, documented contracts and an account of what happens when the other side stops answering. For product work, the code with its tests. Your team builds from the document.

  3. Where the work is done

Work is delivered remotely from the UK. Occasional meetings in person in London.

TiebeamA Tiebeam product

A visa and immigration compliance tracker. It helps people on UK visas keep track of the dates and conditions attached to their status.

  1. Expiry dates and the conditions attached to a status
  2. Travel history, kept as it happens
  3. The record-keeping a settlement application needs

Residay is a record-keeping and reminder tool and does not provide immigration advice.

About

Tiebeam Ltd is a software engineering consultancy and product studio in London. It builds the internal systems businesses run on, for clients in the UK and beyond, and publishes its own subscription software.

The work is led by a senior software engineer whose platform and integration experience spans enterprise, civic technology and regulated environments — places where a system being wrong has consequences outside the codebase.

Alongside client engagements: technical training and mentoring, and a seat on a refugee labour-mobility advisory committee contributing to policy on skilled migration.

Principles
  • Assess before building

What is running, where it strains, and which decisions would be expensive to reverse — settled before anything is built on top of them.

  • Boundaries that hold

Service boundaries and data models are chosen for the change the system is expected to see, not only for the feature in front of it.

  • Integrations that reconcile

Every connection between systems assumes the other side will fail. Retries, idempotency and reconciliation are designed in, not added after.

  • Third parties behind an interface

The platforms a business runs on change. The code that depends on them should not have to.

  • Records that can be audited

Who changed what, when, and under whose approval is kept as part of the system, not reconstructed later from logs.

  • Slow work off the request path

Anything that takes time runs where it can fail and retry without a person waiting on it.

  • The schema is the source of truth

Migrations are applied to a throwaway database in CI and checked for drift before they reach a real one.

  • Decisions and tests left behind

Architecture documents and dated decision records travel with the code, and the code arrives with its tests. Your team builds from the document.
